Behind the Scenes: How We Design Our Notion Templates
A look at the research, prototyping, and testing that goes into each template.
People often think making a Notion template is just dragging blocks around. In reality, we spend weeks on each one.
First, we interview real users. For our project management template, we talked to five freelancers and three small teams. We asked about their biggest pain points: too many clicks, confusing views, missing fields.
Then we prototype in a scratch workspace. We test every link, formula, and rollup. We also run a closed beta with 10 users to catch edge cases. The feedback loop is crucial.
Only after all that do we clean up the design, add instructions, and prepare the final version. It's a lot of work, but it means you get a template that actually works out of the box.
